What is a Holland Lop Rabbit?

Holland Lop Rabbit Facts:

Holland lop rabbits are the cutest thing you have ever seen.  My scientific proof:  I have not shown a Holland lop to a person that has not immediately said "Ahwww".  The basis for the Holland's cuteness is its combination of smallness and hugeness in one bundle.  You might ask how something can be small and large at the same time.  The idea of the Holland lop is to have the largest appearing rabbit possible under 4 lbs.  They are awarded points for massive head size and thick bone structure but can not be over 4 lbs.  The soft floppy ears and docile personalities also play into the Holland's cuteness.

Holland Lops come in three sizes:
False dwarf:  No dwarf genes.  Usually over 4 lbs ok for brood does.  Great for big floppy, cuddly pets.
Dwarf: One dwarf gene usually between 2lbs and 4 lbs.  These are the show bunnies.
Peanuts:  Two dwarf genes.  Sadly these guys will not make it long.

Holland Lop History:
Hollands were first bred by Dutchman Adrian de Cock from Holland.  That is why they are called Holland Lops.  They were a mixture of French Lops, to get the floppy ears and Netherland dwarfs, to get the small size.
